Inheritance of Resistance to Anthracnose (Colletotrichum spp .) in Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)

|
Inheritance of resistance to anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum dematium f. sp. capsicum in pepper was studied by testing the fruits of parents, F₁, F₂ and backcross populations. Wear. lesion diameters of F₁ and F₂ populations were within the range of parental means and each backcross mean was between the F₁ mean and repective parent mean value. Both F₁ and F₂ means were deviated from the midparent value toward the resistance, indicating that resistance is partially dominant. When plants in F₂ and the backcross to susceptible parent were classified into resistant and susceptible group in criterion of lesion diameter 18.1 mm (the value calculated following Sturges), resistance segregated in a mode close to single dominant allele. Heritabilty of resistance was estimated high in red fruits.
